Maintain Your Mental Equilibrium

Life can be stressful and unpredictable and can often leave you feeling out-of-balance. These stresses and strains can often make it difficult for you to Maintain Your Mental Equilibrium.

My aim is to provide a safe and engaging counselling environment in which we can work together towards shared goals and outcomes. By taking the time to better understand what is going on for you, the better equipped you will be to manage and maintain your mental equilibrium.

Counselling is a personal process and looks different for everyone.

As a counsellor who received an ADHD diagnosis in 2023, I can also appreciate some of the hidden struggles that neurodiversity can bring and its impact on Your Mental Equilibrium.

believe in client autonomy and the freedom for clients to choose how long they wish to engage for and how they might want to work.

Please get in touch if you feel like I might be able to support you.

If you are 18 years or above and experiencing mild to moderate stress or mental health concerns, please get in touch.

As part of my service, I offer a free online exploratory session.

ABOUT ME

Hello there, my name is Adrian.

I moved to Suffolk from South London in 2016 with the plan to train as a Person Centred Counsellor at the well regarded Norwich Centre, following the BACP's recommended pathway.  I successfully completed my training in the Summer of 2022, gaining a Post-Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling.

I am now a Registered Member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and carry full therapeutic insurance.

Since moving to Suffolk, I have spent the great majority of my working life within the mental health and support industries.

I have over five years of previous employment with Access Community Trust and Orwell Housing, working within their respective Housing Related Support (HRS) hubs in Lowestoft, providing varying levels of support for the service users within,

who in-turn, helped me to understand their own problems and circumstances.

I also had a period of employment as a Mental Health Caseworker working for the mental health charity Mind. This role saw me to be based within three NHS GP surgeries under The Beaches Medical Centre umbrella in Great Yarmouth.

This role saw me work with hundreds of patients, with a wide range of problems, many of whom were suffering from underlying anxiety and depression.  It was my role to try and support the patients to better understand their circumstances, their personal patterns of behaviour and how they might manage these issues going forward.

Some of the skills I learnt from this role were very useful and have been implemented into aspects of my working.

I also have a real interest in the Criminal Justice system, specifically the UK prison system and achieved a BSc with Honours in Applied Criminology in 2011.  I subsequently volunteered and trained as a Mentor with Kent Probation between 2012 - 2015, as wells completing a brief stint of voluntary work with the Metropolitan Police between 2015 -2016.

As a Person-Centred Practitioner with ADHD, my aim is to create an environment which feels safe for my clients to be themselves and which facilitates a deeper exploration and understanding of the self.

Other personal interests include ADHD and Autism, Emotional Intelligence, Masculinity & Power and Class Structures.

  â€‹

If you are interested in employing my services, I offer a free exploratory session.

There is no obligation to commit to any further sessions.

â€‹I genuinely enjoy meeting and working with people and supporting them to reach and unlock their full potential.

Since July 2024, I volunteer at the Norwich Centre, providing affordable counselling to those in need.

(In Mid-2023, I was diagnosed with Adult ADHD.  This diagnosis was invaluable to me. Please see below.)

A Counsellor who can appreciate and understand Neurodiversity.

As a child, teenager and young adult, I always felt somewhat different from my peers, but for me at least, I valued this difference and was fortunate to be largely accepted as I was.  Life wasn't always easy though.

When, in 2023, I was diagnosed as having Adult ADHD (Hyperactive Type), I was finally able to understand aspects of my personality and better equipped to understand and empathise with some of my personal patterns of behaviour.

Finding out later in life has been a challenge, but my counselling training has, without question, equipped me to gently explore and examine how I think about myself, and challenge some of the things I consider to be truths about my self-concept.

Were they my truths or the values of other people or society, which I took onboard, as I tried to fit into a more neurotypical way of being.

I am now beginning to integrate aspects of my ADHD into my way of working to ensure I am my most authentic self when I work alongside you.  I feel like this understanding enables me to work alongside both neurotypical and neurodiverse clients.

If this is an area in which you think I might be able to support you with, please get in touch.

A Counsellor with lived experience

Being in the world means that we have to interact with it.

Some of these interactions can be uncomfortable and may elicit a low mood or make us feel anxious.

I too have experienced such feelings, but I have also managed to overcome them.

Not only have these experiences helped me to build internal resilience, but they have also supported me to gain insight into my self-concept, helping me to better understand my own personal patterns of behaviour.

If this sounds like something I can support you with, please make contact.
